Community Relations

Those who take the ferry do so because of the many benefits it has to offer: quick direct routes to Manhattan, free buses in New York, convenience and the pure joy of traveling to and from New York on America’s most historic and majestic river. That being said, many in our community request information from us on a regular basis.

Answering this call, NY Waterway has initiated the Ferry Ambassador Program. This program is a citizen outreach network that allows our members to help communicate the services and benefits that NY Waterway provides directly to their communities.

Who are ferry ambassadors? They are members of our community that are enthusiastic about the ferry, possess good communication skills, professionalism, integrity and peer recognition and relationships that fall into the following citizen categories:

The general responsibilities include being a highly informed advocate of our service, assisting in communications outreach, participating in information sessions, providing us with feedback, assisting NY Waterway representatives at community events and in some cases, developing an artistic project based on the ferry.

Once chosen as a Ferry Ambassador, that person will be added to the official Ambassador Roster. A letter and a Certificate of Recognition are promptly sent to them. They will be sent updates, news and announcements on a regular basis so they can fulfill their duties as an Ambassador to their communities and be invited to the Annual Ferry Ambassador Gala.

The Community Relations Department will review the list of Ambassadors annually and send out an e–mail to determine continuing participation in the Ferry Ambassador program.
